Bye 22, hello 23! - resolutions

Helloooo. Happy new year! I hope you had some good holidays and wish everyone a healthy and great new year!

I wanted to create a summary of my fashion year and then share some resolutions for 2023.

2022

Last year for me was all about rediscovering J-fashion. I started watching videos from Cybr.Grl about Fairy Kei and Decora, and I was getting into using the Vinted app at the start of the year and discovered that obviously there is cute fashion on there as well. So I took a deep-dive into everything and started coming up with some outfits. I was sort-of tired of Lolita/EGL fashion because of the silhouette and the colors and I loved 'branching out.

Then I joined the Fairy Kei discord as well and that helped me a lot with understanding the difference between normal 'kawaii' (or yumekawaii) outfits and Fairy Kei. People shared tons of inspiration there so I fell in love even more. I discovered a cheaper japanese shopping service and since then it's been a fun ride!

I've been trying out Fairy Kei before, but I had only one outfit and some way-too-short Bodyline panniers. I never knew that there were better panniers out there (Some of you might say tutu (shorter) or petticoat (longer) but in Japan they call it pannier so there, I like the word).
What can I say: pastels and cute prints make me happy. Soft and flowy clothes make me happy.  I think I had some years before getting a kid where I thought I had to look more mature, but in the end it is all about whatever makes you happy! It's not like I wear this to work, but wearing cute things makes my heart go doki-doki.

Here are some outfits I liked:

2023

This year I want to keep wearing Fairy Kei and maybe try some more Spank!-related outfits (Spank! is what the shop is called that the fashion was influenced by).

My resolutions are:

- Create and wear more handmade items. I saved some sewing/crafting projects and yes I do not have a lot of time for it so that is probably the reason, but I still have that ambition (and love making stuff of course).

A list:

  • a fluffy scarf/muffler (still need some lining for this, but the fabric is here)
  • bloomers (fleece?)
  • handmade fancy legwarmers with frills
  • mint- and lavender colored waistbelts
  • cute accessories like rosettes and ear-rings and some two-way smaller bows.
  • I need necklaces that are cat-themed and bunny-themed.
  • I want to use all the molds I bought for resin-crafting XD.
  • upcycle things, like the fleece pants I bought never did something with. Or that pink nightgown. Or maybe even use my old lolita dresses to make new skirts or something.

- I want to try different silhouettes. I've been wearing mostly the 'classic' fairy look: shirt + skirt + legwarmers + sneakers, but I want to try other things more. I want to try something with pants and bloomers and I would love to try to wear Nile Perch kind of dresses (but NP probably doesn't fit me so...I'll have to make it myself). Not sure how well it looks (my body was made for classic fairy XD) but I'll try.

- I want to use more accessories. Of course I also want to make them, but accessories add so much cuteness to an outfit.

- I want to buy less and sell whatever I don't wear as much. Last year I bought a lot, it was almost embarrassing. Fairy Kei is cheaper than lolita, so second-hand the shirts or skirts were like 5-10 euros, it was nothing (obviously not counting shipping + import costs). I really like selling whatever I don't use: other people get to use it and it gives you back a little money.

- I'd love to make my new room in our new house super-duper-kawaii. I've been bookmarking things and it has no priority but yes I'm looking forward to it. Also here thanks for the Fairy Kei discord, there are some super-creative people on there and I love being part of it.

- It is a bit of far reach and still a dream but maybe we will make plans to go to Japan again!

Luckily our family (my parents and my mom-in-law) is very helpful (we love you!), so we have a bit more time again on our hands. That might help with this. Although I still have some other projects that need to be finished, I hope I can do all of the above this year!
